"Professionalism, timeliness, and excellence"
Jessica Berns epitomizes professionalism, timeliness, and excellence. She consistently provides valuable guidance to the Purdue Peace Project on our visioning and day-to-day operations. Jessica's expertise in locally-driven peacebuilding and her vast professional network have contributed greatly to the effectiveness of our political violence prevention work in West Africa and Central America. I look forward to working with her for years to come.

“An extremely effective leader”
Working with Jessica Berns over the past four years has been a truly inspiring experience. Jessica came on board as editor in chief of a fledgling online publication called “Building Peace,” which began as a modest idea of the Alliance for Peacebuilding to introduce non-expert readers to the world of peacebuilding. Jessica – with her strategic vision and her ability to mobilize a wide range of stakeholders -- has turned Building Peace into a dynamic, online publication with a wealth of unique content and a diverse audience of readers. Jessica has been the driving force behind the magazine’s current level of success.
Jessica’s strong intellectual grasp of peace and security, in addition to her skills in conceptualizing exciting content, and her ability to execute high-level strategy and motivate a diverse team, have made her an extremely effective leader. It has been a truly rewarding experience, and a pleasure to work with Jessica – and I would seek her out again for a wide range of programs that I know needed strong leadership.

"Adapted quickly to learn about the industry"
Opportunity Finance Network brought Jessica on for her project management skills. While with us for a 6 month period, she supported a large-scale industry initiative for the opportunity finance industry. She adapted easily into her role, serving as a point of connection with senior leaders and staff involved with this initiative, exchanging ideas with our communications team, and helping to set meeting agendas and move us towards key deliverables. While Jessica didn’t have previous experience with our content area (community development financial institutions), she adapted quickly to learn about the industry and added value to our work.

"Leadership, global experience, and thoroughness"
When Simmons, Smith, and Mount Holyoke Colleges came together to collaboratively plan and implement a 2-week long summer training program for emerging women leaders through the Women in Public Service Project, Jessica was instrumental in guiding us through the process. She was perceptive in understanding our common values and goals as well as the distinct cultures of our institutions. Over a nine-month period Jessica’s leadership, global experience, and thoroughness were key assets in helping us to create a substantive, cohesive, and culturally sensitive institute.

"Integrity and experience"
I am an individual philanthropist and I don’t count on the infrastructure or support of a foundation. Therefore, when in 2011 I deemed it necessary to find a person of integrity and with substantial experience in the peacebuilding field (the focus of my philanthropy), to lend guidance and insights to my philanthropy, I engaged Jessica Berns. She has built a wonderfully collaborative relationship with my principle grantee, monitored the focus and impact of the work in the field, traveled on my behalf, and provided insightful reports to my family members and me. At the same time, Jessica participates in strategic conversations about the future of my giving, and helped me to develop and implement special
projects with other funders and thought leaders in the peacebuilding field. I am confident that Jessica’s contributions have contributed significantly not only to the positive impact of my giving, but also to progress in the peacebuilding field and will continue to do so.
